Sergio Tacchini, the heritage sportswear brand, has landed at INDI Menswear with updates to the classic lines such as Young Line, Dallas, Orion and Supermac in fresh new colourways, alongside some retro classics.
Sergio Tacchini is a heritage athletics brand launched in 1966 by Italian tennis champion Sergio Tacchini. Known for introducing colour into what was until then an all-white sporting 'uniform'. Worn by tennis champions and sporting heroes, Sergio Tacchini partnered with some of the tennis greats, including John McEnroe, Pete Sampras, Jimmy Connors and Martina Navratilova, and more recently Novak Djokovic among others.
The brand was adopted by the 80s Casuals of UK football terraces, with a whole subculture of music, film and fashion that continues today. The 'Casuals' established a new fashion of wearing designer tracksuits, trainers and sportswear which distinguished them from other fans and, for a while, helped them avoid police scrutiny. Although their hooliganism might not be approved of by many football fans, the '80s Casuals' fashion culture continues today.
The rise of Hip Hop, especially in the US but also in the UK, also gave rise to designer sportswear brands, with rappers like L. L. Cool J, The Beastie Boys, The Notorious B.I.G and the likes of Kanye, Jay Z, The Wutan Clan and many others sporting Sergio Tacchini or singing about it in their lyrics.
